Is neglect the same as ignore

In my mind, 'ignore' sounds somewhat derogative because i often see it being used in contexts such as 'i reported this act of plagiarism to our supervisor but he simply ignored it'.Moreover, the word neglect can be classified under negative terms.However, neglect also has a meaning that implies a sense of responsibility:Say 'ignore' in this case.For example, parents neglect their children.The main difference between neglect and inattention is that neglect is a state when we ignore something deliberately.
